Like usual, me, Jim, and Er decided to go see a movie and we picked
As Good As It Gets. After watching Melvin Udall in action, all
of us were like, "Oh my god, it's JIM." Jack Nicholson plays Melvin who
is "an obsessive-compulsive, impossibly self-absorbed writer who buffers
himself from people by using his highly developed wit for piercing evil.
Nicholson is near-perfect as he slowly allows callous cruelty to give way
to vulnerability in one of the most original, idiosynchratic roles of the
year." (Okay, not my own words but I was too lazy to write it up myself).
Basically Melvin is this isolated guy that sits in front of his typewriter
all day writing up novels. He feels a hell of a lot more comfortable with
a typewriter than he does with people. He's cranky and incredibly
sarcastic...starting to sound familiar? Everday at 11am, he goes to this
restaurant to ogle over some waitress (Helen Hunt) but when it comes to
wooing her, he has no idea what to do. Well, I don't remember much about
this movie because it was a long time ago but Melvin is just the older, just
as sexually awkward and repressed version of our very own Jim Perry.
